What a Weekend!

What a weekend it has been for our club, 4 wins out of five games, in three days.

Up first our under 19s hosted the Walsall 99ers on Friday evening. Showing great character the team were able to earn a tough come from behind victory. Some sharp shooting from Walsall and inconsistent play from the hosts saw West Brom trail by 18 points going into the half time break 30-48. However an improved defensive effort and offensive execution saw West Brom cut the deficit to 8 points going into the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter saw our under 19s put together their best offensive output of the season out scoring the victors 31-18, en route to a 77-72 victory. “Very proud of the guys today. We executed our game plan and showed great character to get ourselves back into the game. We showed composure down the stretch which was enough for us to get the victory.” Coach Sheridan explains following the victory.

Saturday morning our under 17s made the familiar journey to Bournville College to take on Frankley Falcons. A close fought first half saw Frankley take a three point lead into the half time break 37-40. Despite a great effort from under 17s, poor execution and unforced errors saw Frankley take control of the game and take a 74-60 victory. Despite the loss Coach Sheridan feels optimistic about the under 17s season “We have a great bunch of guys and great chemistry. All the players are starting to understand and play their roles for the good of the team. We need to improve our decision making under pressure but we continue to make progress every week and I’m sure this will begin to show in our results” he explained following the loss.

A busy Sunday started with Coach Cameron’s and Coach Johnson’s under 13s hosting the Worcester Wolves. In a close, competitive game the under 13s were able to come away with a close 64-58 victory. Coach Cameron and Coach Johnson will continue working on fundamentals with our youngsters while focusing on their passing and spacing as well as their individual defence.

This was followed by both our mens teams in action in the last 16 of the Rosebowl Cup. Our Prem team hosted Stafford Spartans while our Division 2 side travelled to Stourport to take on Spartans Basketball Club. The Prem team had to battle from behind to overcome a 74 point handicap. A solid team effort was led by a 40 point outing from Kwame Bataille as the Prem team secured their place in the quarter final of the rosebowl competition with an impressive 129-113 victory. The short handed division 2 side were also able to book their place in the quarter final with a 82-65 victory, despite only having six players available. Both teams were able to put together clinical performances, with all players playing their roles for the good of the team.
