Casey: A Players Reflection

Playing competitive basketball for the first time was a real eye-opener. West Brom has given me the chance to learn new skills and grow in confidence, both on and off the court. My journey started in the 2023–24 season, playing for the U14s before moving up to the U16s. During my time at the club, I’ve built strong friendships with teammates and coaches—bonds that are still going strong today.

This year, I stepped up as a young leader at Slam Jam, which has helped me develop skills like time management, decision-making, and communication. Having the opportunity to pass on what I’ve learned to younger players has boosted my confidence and helped me become more open and outgoing.

One of my proudest moments was winning my first trophy with the West Brom U15s. That celebration was unforgettable. Thinking back to my first time on court, I realise now it was about more than just learning a sport—it was about embracing new challenges and stepping out of my comfort zone. I’ve had great support from the coaches at West Brom, and they’ve played a big part in that journey.

I’m especially grateful to Coach Liam, who has supported me through work experience at the club. Thanks to his guidance, I’ve been able to discover my strengths, set goals, and understand what it takes to work in a professional environment. My first day gave me a real insight into the behind-the-scenes responsibilities of being a basketball coach.
