What a summer it has been for West Brom Basketball Club. Before we talk about what has happened on the basketball court we want to talk about a life changing experience for one of our coaches, players and their family. Ziggy and his family have been blessed to be featured on BBC’s DIY SOS resulting in their home being extended to accommodate Ziggy and the rest of his family. Back to basketball – this summer Coach Sheridan was honoured to be part of the City of Birmingham / Hakeem Olajuwon summer basketball camp. During the week he was given the opportunity to work with many talented youngsters from around the country as well as many top coaches from the UK as well as coaches Kenneth Gamble and Donte Mathis from Houston. As well as continuing team training throughout the summer we also ran many day camps, most noticeably our strength and conditioning camps in partnership with Kratos Strength and Conditioning. We are hoping to continue building a partnership to offer our members a once a week strength and conditioning session in addition to team practices. This is vital in a players development and will help push our players and club to the next level. You can check out Kratos on Facebook and Instagram.
Continuing to develop our club also put three of its juniors through their level 2 table officials course this summer, this will enable them to table officiate games for the club as well as add a recognised Basketball England qualification to their CV’s. Well done to Shaun, George and Amethyst for completing the course.
