Yesterday George Salters amazing run of school basketball came to an end for the 2016-2017 season as they were eliminated at the quarter final stage of the Basketball England schools competition. The under 16s put in one of their best performance to date against a strong Northampton School for Boys team. However they were unable to edge out the visitors, falling 68-75 in a close fought well played game by both teams. The quarter scores show how evenly matched both teams were:
Q1: 11-15, Q2: 14-16, Q3: 17-18, Q4: 26-26.
With a large crowd of staff and students to support, the boys did not disappoint and left it all on the floor, giving all they could to book their place in the final 4 of the Basketball England schools competition. Despite the disappointing loss the team have had a very successful season in schools competition being crowned Sandwell Winners, Black Country Winners, West Midlands Winners and falling just one game short of booking their place in the final 4, which is the furthest the school has made it in their strong basketball history.
Scorers:
Diogo 23, Devante 20, Raheem 12, Shaun 6, Brandon 4, Jaskirat 3.
The game marks the end of a three year journey for the year 11s in the team who will be looking forward to competing in the AoC league where they hope to take the school basketball program to new heights once more. The remaining year 10s face the tough task of replicating this years success with a new team moving up into the u16 schools competition. Coach Sheridan and Cameron would like to thank all of the players for their effort and commitment to the program over the past three years and are looking forward to finishing the YBL season strong as they set to defend their 2016 championship.
