Partnership with Sandwell College

West Brom Basketball Club are proud to announce we have started a new partnership with Sandwell College. This partnership will provide young people aged 16-19 with the opportunity to combine studying alongside basketball in our academy style program.

The program will offer a wider range of post-16 courses which can be studied alongside daily basketball practice and weekly AoC games. Additional playing opportunities will also be available through the club’s senior teams competing at various levels locally. In addition to daily team practices the program will also include strength and conditioning, video analysis and regular 1:1 progress meetings.

“We’re buzzing to be able to offer our students these opportunities. After a long delay through a difficult year this a perfect opportunity to restart our basketball offer at Sandwell College. We have some very talented individuals and with coaching expertise from West Brom Basketball Club this will only flourish. This partnership is creating lots of pathways not only in Basketball but in sport. Some really exciting times ahead!” Scott Thomas, Head of Sport, Sandwell College.

In addition to studying and playing, the program will provide real life work experience opportunities through links with local primary schools, secondary schools and community groups. All players will also gain nationally recognised qualifications from Basketball England in coaching and officiating and will be given a platform to use them through West Brom Basketball Club.

“I am really pleased we have reached an agreement to work in partnership with Sandwell College. I think this is a really exciting opportunity for young people to combine studying and basketball. The aim of the program is to create a competitive team on the court but also to provide other opportunities for young people to develop themselves in other areas of basketball such as coaching and officiating. Essentially we are aiming to encourage and provide opportunities for life long participation.” Liam Sheridan, Director, West Brom Basketball Club.

If you would like to be involved or would like any more information about this exciting new program we will be running taster sessions throughout June and July. For more information email neil.parker@sandwell.ac.uk or call 0121 667 5045.
