Yesterday our under 15s, 17s and 19s made the trip to the YBL semi finals at Nechells Community Sports Centre. The under 15s looked on as Coventry Tornadoes defeated Frankley Falcons. Our under 15s will host Coventry Tornadoes in the under 15s semi finals on Friday 12th May at George Salter Academy, 8:00pm tip.
Up next, the under 17s were in action against Frankley Falcons. Based on the regular season results everyone knew this would be a close game, with previous games being decided by three points and two points respectively. Frankley started out strong taking a 23-18 lead at the end of the first quarter on the back of 16 points from Matt Tomlinson.
The second quarter was closely contested with Frankley winning 16-15, taking a six point lead into the half. The third quarter proved to be pivotal, with Diogo Mendes leading the teams defensive efforts to slow down Frankley’s top scorer, as a result West Brom were able to outscore Frankley by seven points taking a one point lead into the final quarter.
In a nip and tuck fourth quarter both teams finished scoring twelve points, with Shaun Poole stepping up and hitting two big jump shots to seal the win and book our place in the final for a second straight year.
Scorers: Diogo 24, Alex 15, Devante 12, Shaun 7, Raheem 3, Jaskaran 2.
To finish our semi finals weekend, the under 19s took on local rivals Sporting Club Albion. With many players playing big minutes in the first game v Frankley fatigue and injuries set in early, that and a tough defensive start from Albion resulted in an ugly 39 point first half deficit. With some defensive changes at half time we were able to slow down the Albion offence holding them to a 27 point second half, however we were unable to consistently turn this into points at the offensive end resulting in a tough 50 point loss.
We wish Albion the best of luck in the finals v Bromsgrove Blaze.
Scorers: Michael 10, Devante 7, Ziggy 5, Jaskirat 3, Diogo 2, Alex 2, Brandon 1.
