Last night our under 15s booked their place in the YBL final for the first time, following a 64-61 win v Coventry Tornadoes.
Everyone knew it would be a tough game, with the teams splitting their two regular season games with one victory each. West Brom finished the season top of the under 15s North League just one game ahead of the visitors.
Both teams came out trading baskets with Coventry taking a one point lead at the end of the first quarter (13-12). The second quarter was more of the same. A solid team offence resulting in a George King buzzer beater saw Coventry take a one point lead into the half time break (29-28).
A strong third quarter from the visitors saw Coventry take an 11 point lead, however strong play from Bradley Deakin, George King and Daniel Coley saw the deficit reduced to six going into the fourth quarter.
A Bradley Deakin three early in the fourth quarter changed the complexion of the game, giving West Brom a huge boost of energy. Solid team play on offence and a big defensive effort led by Cornell Chambers saw West Brom continue to chip away at Coventry’s lead, before taking the lead in the dying minutes of the game. Both teams battled until the end however the unbelievable energy and support from the home crowd was enough to carry West Brom to the victory and book their place in the YBL final. The under 15s and under 17s will face off against Redditch in the finals.
Scorers: George 21, Daniel C 17, Oscar 8, Bradley 6, Daniel J 6, Cornell 2, Reon 2, Joel 2.
The finals will take place on Saturday 20th May at Nechells Wellbeing centre.
