Our mens team have booked their place in the WMBL Clive Hurst Summer League Semi Finals for the second straight year, following a nail biting 43-41 victory v familiar foe Lordswood.
Both teams started the game trading baskets with Ezran Little leading the way for West Brom with ten first quarter points. The second quarter saw more of the same, despite our best efforts to take control of the game going up by as many as ten points, Lordswood kept clawing their way back into the game. A lay up to end the second quarter by Liam Sheridan saw West Brom take a narrow six point lead into half time.
In a scrappy third quarter West Brom were able to add to their lead, increasing their advantage to ten points heading into the final quarter. The fourth quarter saw a huge change in momentum with Lordswood chipping away at the lead. Despite big hustle plays from Dan Opoku, West Brom were unable to convert on offence, igniting a Lordswood run to tie the game. Ezekiel ‘ Ziggy’ Cameron was able to step up and knock down two big free throws before converting a lay up to save the day for West Brom, booking the teams place in next weeks semi final.
Scorers: Ezran 14, Dan 8, Luke 7, Liam 6, Ziggy 6, Chase 1, Dennis 1.
Coach Lewis and the team now prepare to avenge their earlier summer league loss v Yardley who they meet in next weeks semi final, with the winner going through to the final to take on either Arden or Trojans. The semi finals tip off at 7:45 at Nechells Wellbeing Centre, with the finals being played on the same night. Come and show your support!
