Week 4 Round up!

In a busy week and weekend for the club we have seen 8 games across the past 4 days. Starting Thursday our Mens Premier Team travelled to Churchbridge. West Brom Prem team were on the road against a talented Churchbridge team. We started extremely quickly scoring 35 points in the first quarter led by the nights top scorer Luke Hatfield who finished with 37 points and almost the perfect all round game! The scoring continued at the same frenetic pace with West Brom scoring 98 points by the end of the third quarter. Chruchbridge shot well and played well but no answer to the relentless offensive onslaught of their visitors who eventually ran out convincing winners 89-111. It was an excellent team performance with too many standout individual contributions to name the all but the result maintained our unbeaten start to the season.” Coach Rudge.

On Friday our Division 1 team travelled to Bromsgrove Bears. In a game of two halves we were impressive and able to take the lead into half time. The second half saw the lead exchanged between both teams, fortunately we were able to hold on and come away with a close 4 point win.

On Saturday our under 16s hosted Tamworth Tigers. In a scrappy performance our 16s were able to defend their home court coming away with a 72-47 win led by 30 points from Aryan Virdi. “A positive win for the U16s. Moving to 2 wins in 4 games. We did okay offensively and got the win, but we were lacking defensively.” Paul Weston, Team Manager.

On Sunday our under 9s and under 11s played their first tournament in the Wyre Forest Basketball League CVL. Coach Lofters on the tournament “Our under 9s lost their first two games but won the last game with Romario taking over the last quarter and seemingly grabbing every rebound and scoring 12 consecutive points. Our under 11s won all of their games. Micah had a huge tournament debut with an MVP performance!”

At home our under 14s hosted Walsall Wizards. Despite leading for 35 out of 40 mins a disappointing end to the game saw Walsall finish the game on a 14-2 scoring run and take the win 67-53. Coach Cameron and the team will work hard this week as they host Northants Thunder next weekend.

On the road our Women’s 2 team travelled to Stourport Spartans. Building on the progress they have been making this season the women came back with a 50-24. Since their opening loss of the season that’s 2 wins a row for our ladies.

The final game of the season saw our Division 1 side host Northwood Valiants. Despite a sub par performance the division 1 side were ale to defend their home court and win the game 81-64. Coach Preware’s side look to improve on this performance as they host Birmingham METs in their first round match in the Rosebowl cup.
