Weekend Results

Another busy week/weekend of fixtures started Thursday night on the road as our Division 1 side made the short trip to take on Birmingham Blazers. In what was a scrappy defensive effort by both teams the division 1 side were able to come away with a low scoring 4 point win 46-42.

Tipping off our weekends action our under 16s hosted City of Birmingham Rockets. In another close encounter our under 16s managed to defend their homecourt with a 69-63 victory. Coach Maziko on the result: “After a tough weekend the prior week the players were eager to get a positive result. We started the game positively, letting our defence dictate the first two quarters. The team was able to control the game and get a comfortable lead. After the half we saw a comeback from the opposition. The 4th quarter saw tight contested game but the team were able to rally together and close the game out to get the win. This was a strong team effort and it was a well deserved win.”

The first of our five games on Sunday started with our under 14s also hosting City of Birmingham Rockets. After a solid first half performance our under 14s looked in total control of the game. However a strong second half surge by the visitors saw COB tie the game in the second half. Able to withstand the surge Coach Cameron and Coach Lofters side were able to make a run on the back of a solid defensive effort and smart transition basketball on offence, taking the game 57-43. Our under 14s continue will continue to strive for consistency in preparation for next weekends trip to Bromsgrove Bears.

Next up our ladies hosted Tamworth Tigers. Starting all 5 of our under 18s our youngsters held their own with the Tigers. Solid play from our under 18s combined with great leadership and execution form our veteran’s was enough to defend our homecourt 46-43.

Away from home our short handed Division 2 side travelled to Redditch with six players. Losing Pav to injury in the first quarter the 5 remaining players put in a valiant effort but were ultimately beaten 102-67. Also on the road our under 18s travelled to Warwickshire Warriors. Despite continuing improvements the under 18s also came up short losing the contest 91-61.

Completing our busy weekend our Division 1 side hosted Birmingham Reapers. On the back of Thursday’s win Coach Preware’s side put in an impressive performance to take the game 100-67 improving to 6 and 1 for the season.
